Peanut oil

Peanut oil (arachis oil or groundnut oil) is a familiar and frequently used basic oil. Peanuts originated in Brazil but they are now cultivated in all tropical regions.

Peanut oil contains a relatively high percentage of monounsaturated fatty acids and a relatively low percentage of polyunsaturated fatty acids. For this reason, peanut oil is considered one of the best kinds of oils when it comes to exposure to prolonged heat. Peanut oil is used for many purposes. In the Netherlands, it is particularly favoured for deep-frying the ‘doughnut balls’ so popular around New Year’s Eve.
